There was a very productive meeting held in the outdoor pavilion recently. At the start of the meeting, President Malachy McSkeane called for a minute’s silence for Benny Smyth, founder member and Trojan worker for the club. Anyone who knew Benny understood that he lived and breathed Ballybay/Derryvalley Bowls Club. Without his hard work and ambition, it would not be in the healthy position that it is in Today.
Chairman Brendan Magennis then opened the meeting and called on all officers to give their report’s. The following officers were then elected for the year ahead. President: M. McSkeane , Chairman: B.Magennis, Secretary: C.Smyth, Ass Sec: G.Martin, Treasurer: U.Gamble, Ass Treasurer: D.McMahon and Selectors; G.Berry, S.Winters, M.McSkeane, B,Magennis and G.Martin. Brendan Magennis said that the club has a very busy year ahead as it is hosting the Champion of Champions in the first week of September. There is a lot of work and preparation to go into this before the event and needed all members on board to give a helping hand. Our first match in the Ulster league is away to Dungannon in a fortnight and he hoped to see as many out practicing on the green as possible as there are places up for grabs on the team.
Before he closed the meeting, he said he was delighted to see so many clubs represented at the meeting as this augurs well for the year ahead. The green will be open every evening from 5:45pm, if anyone would like to use it out of these hours to contact any committee member to arrange this.
