The Ballybay/Derryvalley Bowls Club will host a special Charity Pairs competition this August in honour of the late Benny Smyth, with matches taking place mid-month and the final scheduled for Saturday, August 23rd.
Benny was a founder member, a tireless volunteer, and the driving force behind the creation of County Monaghan’s only outdoor bowling green, officially opened in August 2006. He didn’t just talk about the idea – he got the shovel out and made it happen. His vision and dedication provided a lasting outlet for players of all ages and abilities – a legacy that continues to thrive nearly 20 years later.
The Smyth family have kindly donated a beautiful perpetual cup in his memory, and all proceeds from the competition will go to charity. The club warmly welcomes all support – whether you’re taking part, spectating, or simply showing your appreciation for a man who gave so much to the local community.
Anyone wishing to enter or support the event can contact Brendan Magennis, Gabriel Martin, or any committee member for more details.
Let’s honour Benny the best way we know how – with bowls, good company, and a cause close to the heart.
