The local league reached the play off stage on Monday evening the 15th August when Ballybay Whites took on Clontibret Saffron and Latton played Derryvalley. All games were very competitive and the result was in doubt until the last fewends. It was a glorious evening to have these games and the spectators really enjoyed both matches. In the end Ballybay Whites had a comprehensive win over Clontibret however Latton just managed a one shot victory over Derryvalley.
Saturday next 20th August will see the champion of champions rinks qualifier which starts at 11am and will be played to a finish.
We hoped to have a date this week for the Gerald Mc Guirk memorial shield final against Omagh however this has yet to be decided. What we do know is that we will have home advantage. In the meantime the Ballybay team should get in as much practice as possible. The last time we won the shield was in 2013 when we also won the league but there was no hope of repeating that feat this year as we have finished in second place behind Dungannon who got 89 points and we had 82. Some of the other clubs have to play their last games so we hope to have a final update next week.
On Saturday 3rd September the champion of champions will take place on our green, so we need to get together soon to have it looking pristine for that big day when all 8 teams in the border counties will be present.
