Despite inclement weather on last Saturday morning play went ahead on the outdoor bowling green where the rinks competition were to be held. Before the first game the sun came out and a very pleasant evenings bowling took place. There were eight teams in the draw which meant all games were filled from the start. The last two teams were Paudge Cassidy’s team who met Seamus Smyth’s side in the final. After eleven ends of bowls Seamus and his team were the winners by a slim margin. On Seamus team were Seamus Lennon, George Berry and Dorothy Berry. Paudges losing side were JJ Duffy, Cora Smyth and Brendan Traynor. Our sponsor of prizes for this competition was Gabriel Traynor of Traynor Trophies to whom we are most thankful. Gabriel was on hand to make the presentation at the conclusion.

The final of the local league that ran during the 2016 season took place on Monday evening last on our bowling green where Ballybay White and Latton competed for the Jackie Rutledge Cup. After a great evenings bowling the winners were Ballybay Whites who had a comprehensive victory. On the White team were Benny Smyth, Brendan Mc Gahey, Kathleen O Hanlon, Rose Gibson, Jockey Gibson and Danny Mc Cormack. The Latton team consisted of Seamus Smyth, Seamus Winters, Mickey Duffy, Peggy Duffy, Stephen Duffy and Seamus Lennon. The club appreciated having Angela Rutledge on hand afterwards to make the presentation to the winning team.
This has been a very busy week at the bowling green with the border counties team playing the final of the Gerald Mc Gurk memorial Shield – full report on that final next week.
