MY BALLYBAY LIFE – MIRIAM MAGUIRE

The latest edition in the ‘My Ballybay Life’ series in the Ballybay and Its people Facebook page features Miriam Maguire. It is another fantastic read. Miriam was the daughter of local Sergeant, Liam Maguire. She tells us about her early life in Ballybay and her friends Monica Mc Kenna and Celine Linden, Mary Mc Ginnity, Maureen Mc Aviney and Josephine Mc Carthy.

Miriam was part of the Hall Street gang and went to school in St. Brigids. Her article tells of the simple but happy life she had. Christmas meant one present while luxuries such as opal fruits or mars bars were only got when her father was up north refereeing football.

Miriam continues her article reminiscing about her first job in Riverdale, boarding at the convent in Monaghan and going on to become a midwife. While working in healthcare, Miriam spent some time in the middle east including a stint in Kuwait  where she was kidnapped for 30 days.
Itchy feet seen Miriam work in Germany and California before returning home. She retired as a midwife in Our Ladies of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda in 2021. Miriam still visits Ballybay to see family and friends. Her article is well worth a read.
