Its harvest time again, that time of year when we take time to give thanks to God for the way He continually provides for all our needs. We remember God’s promise in Genesis 8 v 22 “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.” On Sunday 22nd October Second Ballybay church will be decorated for our harvest services at 12 noon and 7.30pm. Everyone in our community is invited to join with us for these special services.
Our minister, Rev Dr. Gerry Clinton, will take the morning service and we will have a familiar face to many in Ballybay on Sunday evening 22nd October at 7:30pm when we welcome the Rev John Hanson for a special night back in the pulpit where he preached for so many years. Our choir and musicians will bring all the favourite harvest hymns and we will be praying to thank God for His many generous blessings and to ask for His help, His grace, His healing in our hour of need. All are most warmly welcome, why not bring a friend and if you have time feel free to stay for supper in Hall Street Hall afterwards. It would be great to see you there!
Then on Monday night and each night at 8pm until Friday 27th we are looking forward to hearing from five of the most gifted speakers on the island – Rev Norman McAuley, Rev John Woodside, Mr Dennis Flannigan, Rev John Martin, and Rev Andrew Mullan. We are also excited to be having our choir and musicians sing and play throughout the week and all are very welcome to hang on afterwards any of the nights if time permits for a cup of tea or coffee.
Harvest time is a time of reflection, gratitude, and seeking the good of all. We look forward to the opportunity to come together this harvest time to give thanks and to reflect on what we have as well as maybe what we lack, seeking God to meet us at the point of our need.
We invite you to embrace the spirit of harvest with us this October at Second Ballybay Presbyterian Church as we seek to share what we have with those who have not. At our week of special services we will be collecting non-perishable food items to be given to local charities to help those in need. As we gather to express our gratitude and pray for a prosperous year ahead we will also have the opportunity to bless others out of what God has given us.
We’re all familiar with the many parables Jesus told about harvest time and the many simple farming stories He shared to bless many and bring them hope. Those stories and parables are just as true this Harvest time as they ever were. Come listen to six thought-provoking speakers, to the melody of the choir, to the uplifting praise as we gather together before the God of the harvest this year in a week of special services at Second Ballybay Presbyterian Church, Clones Road, Ballybay.
